Late Afternoon Stomps

With a few short days at work and an itch to get out with Lou, I took a few chances at last light birds with Lou. It is so much fun to watch this dog work now that she is two years old. It takes mere minutes to see that upland hunting runs in her blood. The first bird was a full blown birdy dog that got bested by an old bird that didn't expect us to be there. Lou caught the scent was off to the races but the bird managed to get behind her and got wiggy enough that it flushed wild. With one perfectly placed shot, Lou got to retrieve her first rooster of the season. Boy was she pleased!

On the same public property a few days later Lou and I were back out there again, this time finding a great flock of birds. They were flushing wild and no amount of long shots was going to work. Instead I marked where the roosters went and pulled a loop around the backside of the low dry creek. At that point I just let Lou do the work. In less than 100 yards, Lou locked up. With a whispered command, she buried her nose and flushed another old rooster right in front of me.

That pup sure is proud of her work!
