Diver Day on Interloper

An opening weekend would not have been complete without a trip out to Interloper slough. With mostly divers in mind we are never picky. It didn't take too long before we were able to pull a bird down on the end of the shoreline point. The first bird to drop down into our spread was a nice pintail and Dad made a great shot, one of few for the day. It was not a banner day on the water as we have seen in the past, but there is always something about this slough that has magic. Our shooting was definitely put to the test this go-around and we did some spectacular missing. While attempting a retrieve on a cripple that was much farther out than I had expected, Lou and I had to turn around and pull the plug. While halfway back from our trek back a lone redhead made its way right towards our spread and mid-lake, I was able to pull it down and give Lou something to retrieve.

We managed a modest five birds on our morning and before our day was complete we were greeted by our new local CO and his trainee. After a quick gun check and some unfortunate license checking, we were informed that we had some missing information....Dad was cited a warning for an expired state stamp, and I had a copy that didn't include everything that I had purchased. Verbal warming for me and a written for Dad..... Our new guy was great about it and we hope to run into him in the future to know we are not usually this disheveled.

Despite the minor hiccup, we had a great outing on Interloper.
