The first week in September Rachel and I took some time off to head back to Iowa for a few days. She had some vacation time to burn, and I have accrued plenty. There was going to be a little bit of everything while we were back. We visited Megan and Ben in Charles City, I did some projects for the in-laws, and I even found some time to walk around Coleman's. Twas a great week to get away for a bit.
The Saturday of our trip we headed down to Ames to do some tailgating with some of our college friends. It was the Iowa, Iowa State game, and we figured this was as good of a chance as any to actually tailgate like normal people. We spent 8 years in Ames and never did it, except for the games I worked. This was the same crew, now on the other side of the game.
Rachel thought it would be a great idea to just give breakfast a try while tailgating. While most people BBQ some sort of meat (which I did as well) we tried another approach. Rachel made pancakes while I made the bacon and eggs. Not your most traditional tailgating fare, but who the hell cares; it was great!
We paid some attention to the game on the radio, as none of us had tickets to the game, but our time was mostly spent just hanging out realizing how much older we have all gotten. Not really all that big of a problem, more of an observation. The Hawkeyes ended up pulling out the win, but it was great to hang out back in Ames for a day. It blows my mind how much has changed down there since we were there, and it has only been three years.
Though it was a long five day-vacay, it was done and gone and we were back in Clark before we knew it. Was it nice to sleep in our own bed again? Absolutely. Do we miss home?
Absolutely.
Stay Tuned
